Righteousness is having a right standing with God. Through what Christ has done for us, we can come into the presence of God without fear and guilt. We are sanctified and redeemed from the power of guilt and sin. (1 Cor 1:30, 2 Peter 2:24)
When Adam sinned in the garden of Eden by eating the fruit and disobeying God, death came through that act of sin to cut man off our relationship with God. (Gen 3)
But Christ came to die on the cross, and give us back our authority and relationship with God. (Romans 5:17, John 3:16)
I can walk daily knowing that Jesus Christ paid the penalty of sin for mankind on the cross, that I should no longer be bound by sin and the law, but that I can accept the free gift of righteousness that Christ wrought on the cross to set me free. (Romans 10:4, Isaiah 64:6)
We are called to worship God in spirit and in truth, through eternity. The law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. (John 1:17)
According to "Destined to Reign" by Joseph Prince, grace is a person, and you can have a relationship with a person. Christianity is about having a relationship with God; to fellowship with God, we read the Bible, pray, and communicate with Him. We also listen to Him speak to us, and we obey his voice.
The law of Moses tells us what to do, but does not give us the power to do it. Jesus Christ gives us guidance and power to accomplish it. (Luke 9:1, Luke 10:19)
Jesus Christ wiped out the charges that were written against us through his death. He disarmed principalities and powers making a show of them. (Col 2:14-15)
Thus, He removed the weapon of the devil – using the law against us; therefore, the devil can no longer use the law to condemn us.
In conclusion:
Only the grace of God can bring hope to us, by the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are righteous because of what Jesus did for us, dying on the cross to pay for our sins. (Gal 5:1, John 8:36, Romans 6:18)
